After leading its Division 1 poll all season, three-time defending CIF-Southern Section J.Serra is now second (behind Upland), according to the latest CIF-SS rankings issued Jan. 6.
The Lions (9-1) incurred their only loss Dec. 14 to San Juan Hills, but are still favored to go deep into the playoffs that begin next month. J.Serra began its Trinity League season Jan. 4 with a 3-1 win over seventh-ranked Santa Margarita, and takes on eighth-ranked Mater Dei on Jan. 16.
Several other Catholic school teams are ranked second in their respective divisional rankings: Santa Clara (girls’ soccer), Mater Dei (boys’ soccer) and Rosary and La Salle (girls’ water polo). A look at this week’s divisional polls:
