Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Communications, the Executive Project Officer serves as a key player in a fast-paced, high-energy executive leadership team and is responsible for planning and executing projects and initiatives serving the pastoral priorities of the Archbishop of Los Angeles, head of the largest and most culturally-diverse Catholic community in the United States.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, a good researcher and good writer, will be trustworthy with sensitive and confidential information, and will have a passion to be engaged in local, national and international issues involving the Catholic Church, as well as local, state, and national political issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.
Daily responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with Vice Chancellor for Communications and his Chief Communications Officer, Chief Digital Officer, and Editor-in-Chief, to develop strategic goals and recommendations regarding a variety of communication and public engagement initiatives.
- Representing the Vice Chancellor in meetings with Archdiocesan agencies, parishes, and schools, as well as in initiatives involving various government, community, cultural and religious agencies, including the Vatican and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
- Scheduling, planning, and budgeting and oversight and evaluation for all aspects of specific programs and projects, including monitoring performance metrics and budget compliance.
- Researching and analyzing laws and public policies; political and cultural issues and recommending courses of action.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ideally, 5 years of executive-level administrative and project management experience. But willing to consider applicants with less experience who have strong research and writing skills, high moral standards, and an exceptional work ethic.
- Highest standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information.
- Practicing Catholic (highly preferred) with strong knowledge of teaching and practices of the Catholic Church and current issues affecting the Church in Los Angeles and California and in the United States.
