The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has many of the best football teams in the country — including last year’s national No. 1, St. John Bosco.

The Braves have picked up right where they left off last season. So have the Chaminade Eagles, who jumped divisions this year after winning the state Division 2 title last year. Both are undefeated three weeks into the season.

Here’s the lowdown on the top five teams in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

1. St. John Bosco (3-0) has not lost since 2012. The Braves defeated Oregon’s No. 1 team, Central Catholic, 42-14, as Josh Rosen, Sean McGrew and Clifford Simms each rushed for two touchdowns. The Braves actually trailed in the third quarter, 14-7, before scoring five unanswered touchdowns.

Up Next: The Braves travel to Nevada Sept. 26 to take on Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), the No. 1 team in Nevada, and the No. 4 team in the country, according to MaxPreps.

2. Chaminade (3-0) is holding its ground after moving up to Division 1 this year, winning by an average 29-point margin, led by Okalani Taufahema-Langi.

Up Next: The Eagles play their first league game on Sept. 26 against Loyola. Their toughest test figures to be at Serra on Oct. 31.

3. Alemany (3-0) has breezed through the first three games of the season. Senior wide receiver and free safety Brandon Pierce has a handful of interceptions, along with some great kickoff returns. Desean Holmes has shown why he’s headed to USC, catching three touchdowns in the Warriors’ 51-30 win over Narbonne. Quarterback Blake Green threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns in that game.

Up Next: The Warriors have four challenging weeks ahead of them: Chaminade (Oct. 2), Bishop Amat (Oct. 10), Loyola (Oct. 17), and Serra (Oct. 24). With a successful run, the Warriors have a good shot at the Mission League title.

4. Serra (2-1) lost to a very talented Bellevue (Washington’s top-ranked team), 31-14. However, the Cavaliers have won their other games convincingly, allowing only 6 points in each. Khalil Tate ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing a TD pass, in beating Carson 31-6.

Up Next: The Cavaliers play in the deeply talented Mission League, meaning every league game will be a tough game. They take on Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) on Sept. 26, and then finish the regular season against Loyola on Nov. 7.

5. Bishop Amat (2-1) traveled to Texas, and whipped Texas powerhouse Aledo, 42-7. Then, back in California, they blew out Rancho Cucamonga 46-17 as Anthony Camargo rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and junior quarterback Damian Garcia threw for 199 yards and four scores.

Up Next: The Lancers, also in the Mission League, play Crespi (Sept. 26), Serra (Oct. 10), and Alemany (Oct. 10), to name a few. They finish their season against Notre Dame on Nov. 7.
