The New Year 2014 began at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels with Archbishop José Gomez urging Catholics to think of New Year’s resolutions outside of their own personal desires.

“Let us think,” he said in his New Year’s Eve homily Dec. 31, “of resolutions that can help us grow in our faith, resolutions that can be a beautiful sign of our faith and our desire to grow as children of God.”

Working for peace in our community and in our world, and working to make life better for others were among the examples he suggested.

“God has blessed us by sending us his only Son,” he said. “We need to share the blessings of his love, his peace and his goodness with others.”
