Nearly 130 benefactors and friends gathered on March 19 at The Jesuit Novitiate of the Three Companions in Culver City, Calif., to celebrate the successful conclusion of the Generations Capital Campaign.
Los Angeles Archbishop José H. Gomez served as principal celebrant and Bishop Gordon Bennett, SJ, as homilist at a Mass dedicating a new chapel in honor of St. Ignatius Loyola. California Province Provincial Fr. Michael F. Weiler, SJ, Oregon Province Provincial Fr. Scott Santarosa, SJ, and Director of Novices Fr. Stephen Corder, SJ, also were in attendance and offered celebratory remarks at a luncheon following the Mass.
The recently concluded Generations Capital Campaign exceeded its $27 million goal. Projects completed at the Novitiate included a 10-room addition to accommodate an expected increase in the number of Jesuit novices, a new St. Ignatius Chapel to replace a converted garage, and support for the Formation fund for men from the California and Oregon provinces studying for Jesuit priesthood or brotherhood. As part of the day’s festivities, the new chapel was blessed.
A second Campaign celebration is planned for April 16 at the Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, Calif., where completed campaign projects include infirmary expansion, family guest suites, Sacred Heart Chapel improvements, a new heating and air conditioning system, and electrical upgrades.
