Deacon José Oscar Barrera died January 25, 2024.
Deacon Oscar was born on February 11, 1951, in El Salvador. He immigrated to the United States in 1969. Oscar and his wife Matilde were married on March 20, 1971, at Divine Saviour Church in Los Angeles, CA. They had three children, Noel (deceased), Paul, and Karina. Matilde preceded Oscar in death on February 21, 2005, and now they are both home with the Lord.
Oscar was ordained on June 8, 2002, and was originally assigned to St. Patrick Church, North Hollywood. He most recently served at Sagrado Corazon Catholic Church in Compton, CA.
Services will be held at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Mission Hills, CA 91345:
Viewing: Tuesday, March 5, 5-8 p.m.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, March 6, 9 a.m. Priests and deacons wishing to attend are invited to vest in an alb and white stole.
Interment will take place at Mission Hills Catholic Cemetery following the Funeral Mass.
