The second round of the CIF-Southern Section Softball Tournament will feature seven Catholic school teams who won their first round games played May 2 and 3.

The best showing came in Division 5, in which Paraclete, Flintridge Sacred Heart and Louisville all advanced to Round 2. Other first round winners included Santa Margarita, Bishop Amat, Mayfield and Bishop Conaty-Loretto.

Second round games will be played May 7, followed by quarterfinals on May 9, semifinals May 14, and finals May 18. First round results:

Division 1: Seventh-seeded Santa Margarita (24-3) edged Redlands East Valley 5-4, and plays No. 10 Oaks Christian (22-4). Esperanza beat Mater Dei 2-1.

D-2: Rio Mesa beat St. Paul 4-0, and Royal beat Chaminade 2-0.

D-3: Bishop Amat (14-7) beat Irvine 10-0 and will play Diamond Ranch (10-14). Mira Costa beat Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks 8-4

D-4: Rialto beat Pomona Catholic 6-4; Westlake beat La Reina 7-0; Culver City upset No. 3 Mary Star 3-2; and Godinez beat St. Anthony 14-5.

D-5: Gold Coast League champ Paraclete (18-1), the tenth seed, edged Bishop Montgomery 6-5 and will play No. 9 Quartz Hill (16-4). Sunshine League champ Flintridge Sacred Heart (17-5), seeded sixth, got by Knight 9-8, and will play Newport Harbor (18-9). Eighth-seeded Louisvilla (12-9) blanked Santa Ynez 5-0 and will play Covina (13-11). Campbell Hall beat Santa Fe League champ Serra 7-4.

D-6: Sierra Vista edged Santa Clara 2-1; Lancaster beat Ramona Convent 13-2; and La Puente beat Cantwell-Sacred Heart 8-2.

D-7: Third-seeded Mayfield (11-8) beat Cal Lutheran 14-0 and will play Beverly Hills (10-9). Bishop Conaty-Loretto (8-6) edged Orangewood Academy 8-7 and will play Academy of Academic Excellence (10-5). San Jacinto Valley beat St. Pius-St. Matthias 15-1; Vasquez beat Sacred Heart 15-3.
