Sara Kovac, one of the mainstays of Loyola Marymount’s women’s volleyball team that reached the second round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, has signed a pro contract to play volleyball in Slovenia.

The native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, also will represent her home country in the upcoming Pan American Games, to be held in August in Peru, before heading to Nova Gorica, Slovenia to start her professional career with the GEN-I Volley Nova Gorcia team, competing for the CEV Cup European championship.

“I knew Sara had the goal of playing professional volleyball since the first time I sat down and talked with her after getting the job at LMU," said Lions’ head coach Aaron Mansfield. "Sara is an independent, self-sufficient and hard-working person, which are all important characteristics for a player to maximize their experience in Europe. Sara has worked tirelessly to improve the mental and physical aspects of her game while at LMU and it paid off big time."

In 2018, Kovac led the Lions in kills (448) and ranked second in the West Coast Conference for kills per set (3.94), earning a spot on the All-WCC first team. She majored in economics with a mathematics minor.
