With CIF-Southern Section preliminaries and championships approaching in mid-November, the Oct. 29 CIF-SS boys’ cross country rankings issued by PrepCalTrack.com’s Rich Gonzalez found Loyola tied for second in Division 2, the highest ranking of any local Catholic school.

In D-3, Servite and St. John Bosco remained 11th and 14th, while J. Serra held at third in D-4, as did Cathedral (sixth), Chaminade (ninth) and Bishop Amat (12th). St. Bonaventure remained No. 9 in D-5.

In girls’ cross country, Mater Dei was still 12th in D-2, and Santa Margarita still sixth in D-3. Bishop Amat, J.Serra and Mayfield are Nos. 5-6-8 in D-4, with Flintridge Sacred Heart tenth and Immaculate Heart 15th, And in D-5, La Reina is eighth, Sacred Heart tenth and Ramona Convent 13th.

CIF-SS preliminaries take place Nov. 9-10, CIF finals on Nov. 17, and state championships on Nov. 24.

In the final girls’ tennis polls released Oct. 29, Chaminade was fifth in Division 2; Bishop Montgomery third and Alemany tenth in D-4; and La Salle fourth and Notre Dame Academy sixth in D-5.

The final boys’ water polo polls (also released Oct. 29) saw Loyola, Mater Dei and Santa Margarita ranked third, fifth and sixth in Division 1; Damien seventh in D-2; Servite third in D-3; and Cathedral seventh in D-7.

Initial CIF-SS polls in boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and girls’ water polo will be issued in November, closer to the start of each sport’s regular season.
