Crespi remains on top of Division 6 in the CIF-Southern Section boys’ water polo divisional polls released Sept. 16 in a week of upward movement by Catholic teams.

Also remaining highly ranked are Loyola and Mater Dei, still third and fourth in the combined D-1 & 2 poll with Santa Margarita ninth and Damien up from 20th to 18th. And J.Serra rose from sixth to second in D-4.

Servite dropped from second to fifth in D-3, but St. Francis joined the D-5 top ten, ranking fifth among D-5. Just outside their respective top tens are Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks (D-3) and La Salle (D-6).

Cross Country

Girls’ Catholic school teams showed both upward and downward movement in the latest CIF-Southern Section cross country divisional polls released Sept. 16.

In Division 4, Mayfield stayed fifth and Bishop Amat eighth. Sacred Heart moved from eighth to seventh but La Reina fell from third to tenth in D-5. Santa Margarita slipped out of the D-3 poll.

There were no changes among Catholic teams in boys’ cross country. Loyola held at seventh in Division 2; St. John Bosco tenth in D-3; Cathedral fourth and J.Serra eighth in D-4; and St. Paul tenth in D-5.

Girls’ Tennis

The first CIF-SS girls’ tennis rankings of the season listed Mayfield as the only local Catholic school in any of the five divisional top tens, placing fifth in D-3. Not enough data was available to create a D-4 poll, the CIF-SS reported.
