Two Ventura County Catholic high schools finished in the top 20 of the CIF-Southern Section Girls’ Division 4 Swimming Championships held May 3 at Riverside Aquatics Center.

Villanova Prep of Ojai finished 13th with 67 points, while La Reina of Thousand Oaks was 17th with 39 points. Winner Diamond Bar had 302 points to win the D-4 girls’ title and 574 points to win the D-4 boys’ crown.

Leading the way for Villanova was senior Lyla Moes, who was sixth in the 50 Free, seventh in the 100 Free, and anchored the ninth-place 400 Free Relay team and the 12th-place 200 Free Relay unit. (Points are awarded to the nine finalists in each event, and to those placing 10th through 18th in the consolation finals.)

Also scoring for Villanova were seniors Lexi Overton and Jillian Diaz, junior Dana Gramckow and freshman Katherine Miller.

For La Reina, freshman Ashley Rush was eighth in the 100 Breast and was on two relay teams that placed in the consolation finals, the 200 Medley and 400 Free. Joining her on those teams were senior Holly Bland, junior Shea Frawley and sophomore Taline Krumian.

In the boys’ competition, junior Ashton Hart of Villanova was the lone scorer among Catholic schools, with a 15th place in the 50 Free to earn four points.
