Athletic Director Deb Drury has been selected by the CIF Southern Section Ethics in Sports Committee as a recipient of the “Champion for Character” award.
This program recognizes student-athletes, coaches, administrators, athletic trainers, schools, officials, and members of the media who best exemplify the virtues of sportsmanship and character among our member schools and our communities.
Rebecca Lamas, Assistant Athletic Director, Coach, and Ramona Alumna, cited Ms. Drury as “exemplifying the very finest in sportsmanship, character, integrity and athletics. The Commissioner of Athletics, Rob Wigod, will present the award and notes, “the selection was made from thousands of possible recipients in the CIF Southern Section; so this is truly an honor.”
Ms. Drury has been with Ramona Convent Secondary School as teacher, coach and Athletic Director for more than 30 years. She has taught PE/Health and coached many sports over the years, including working with the swim program. She has not only taught both in and out of the classroom but has also built Ramona’s sports program to be a model of good sportsmanship and quality.
When asked about her thoughts on this award, Ms. Drury stated, “I am thankful for this honor, and I just want to say that this accomplishment wasn’t reached alone. I have been fortunate to work as a director, where I have had the privilege of working with wonderful student athletes, colleagues, parents, and administrators — who all came together as a team, time and time again, for the sake of our collective success. I’ve always believed in the importance of doing one’s very best, and I am thankful to all those who have shared in my journey. In the words of Henry Ford, ‘Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.’”
This well-deserved recognition emphasizes the lasting impression Deb Drury has cast on the school and all of the students she has interacted with during her tenure. Ms. Drury plans to retire at the end of this school year.
