The Archdiocese of Los Angeles’s senior director of the Office of Life, Justice and Peace will be among a group of faith leaders discussing the role of faith and the changing face of work at a panel at LA’s Skirball Center.

Among those joining the Archdiocese’s Kathleen Buckley Domingo at the May 8 event are Fr. Allan Figueroa Deck, S.J., a professor of pastoral theology at Loyola Marymount University, Rabbi David Wolpe, and Zhiru Ng, professor of religious studies and coordinator of Asian studies at Pomona College.

The town hall meeting is organized by WorkingNation, a nonprofit media entity “that uses video and text to educate people on the future of work — how the job market is changing, and what we can do about it.”

The panel will explore questions such as “What does religion teach us about the dignity of work and our purpose in life?” and “How can we develop a meaningful relationship between our work and our sense of purpose in life?”

According to WorkingNation, the panel will discuss what religious institutions, leaders, and communities can do to address a changing job market that is seeing the replacement of grocery store cashiers with self-checkout lines, technology support that has been rerouted outside the country, and the ability of devices like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home to give us the weather, local news, and more.
