The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart will host a special celebration this Sunday, Feb. 17, to announce the publication of a new book about their foundress, Venerable Mother Luista of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Archbishop José H. Gomez penned the introduction to the book, “In the Face of Darkness: The Heroic Life and Holy Death of Mother Luisita,” written by Sister Timothy Marie, O.C.D.
“Sister Timothy Marie writes with a novelist’s ear for dialogue and an eye for detail,” Archbishop Gomez wrote. “Her storytelling brings out the complex human character of the saint and the times she lived in. This book is hagiography for our times, the way it should be written. And these pages are rich with words drawn from Mother Luisita’s own writings.”
Sister Timothy Marie will be signing advance copies of the book on Sunday at the reception, which will include a live mariachi band and singing by the Carmelite sisters. The celebration will continue with a Mexican dinner and a screening of “For Greater Glory,” a film about the religious persecutions in 1920s Mexico that forced Mother Luisita to flee to the U.S.
