When Miguel Herrera was admitted to St. Bernardine Medical Center (SBMC), he and his long-time partner Antonia Sanchez knew he didn’t have much time left. With the help of the SBMC staff and the spiritual care department, they were able to realize Miguel’s dying wish — to be married in the Catholic Church.

Father Antonio Sudario organized the couple’s special day, complete with flowers, sparkling cider, and special guests, including their daughter Michelle, who served as the couple’s flower girl. He performed a convalidation of marriage, blessing and recognizing the couple’s union with the Church. “By providing this special service,” he said, “they will now be able to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion in their last days together.”
