Taking their first look at the site of the NCAA West Regional course they’ll run in November, the Loyola Marymount University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams acquitted themselves well at the Cougar Classic Sept. 13 in Colfax, Washington.

Redshirt senior Kyla Danforth of Canyon Country fared the best, finishing second overall in the women’s race in 21:21.8, just five seconds off her collegiate best, and leading the Lions to a fourth-place team finish. Completing the top five for LMU were Hannah Wiollenberg (24th overall), AnnKelly, Gabriela Hernandez and Raina Hines.

The men’s team also finished fourth, led by Max Smith (24th overall) with a personal best of 25:10.1. Also scoring were Joseph Garcia, Cooper McCarthy, Simeon Paul and Zach Arias. LMU returns to competition Sept. 28 with the Capital Cross Challenge at Arcade Creek Golf Course in Sacramento.
