More than a dozen young baseball stars who have played at local Catholic high schools and colleges were selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft held last week.

As previously reported, Royce Lewis (Junípero Serra) and Hunter Greene (Notre Dame) were taken one-two in the first round. Over the weekend, Lewis signed a contract with the Minnesota Twins reportedly worth $6.7 million.

Among the 1,205 players who were selected in the draft are the following, listed by round with their position, local school affiliations, overall selection numbers and the teams that selected them:

Round 1: Royce Lewis, shortstop, Junípero Serra HS, No. 1 by the Minnesota Twins; Hunter Greene, pitcher-infielder, Notre Dame HS/Sherman Oaks, No. 2, Cincinnati Reds.

Round 2: Griffin Canning, pitcher, Santa Margarita HS and UCLA, No. 47, Los Angeles Angels; Cory Abbott, pitcher, Loyola Marymount University, No. 67, Chicago Cubs; Blake Hunt, catcher, Mater Dei HS, No. 69, Toronto Blue Jays.

Round 3: Scott Hurst, outfielder, Bishop Amat HS and Cal State Fullerton, No. 94, St. Louis Cardinals.

Round 5: David Banuelos, Damien HS and Cal State Long Beach, No. 153, Seattle Mariners.

Round 15: Alex Garcia, pitcher, Bishop Amat HS and UC Santa Barbara, No. 443, Philadelphia Phillies.

Round 23: Mikey Duarte, infielder, St. John Bosco HS and UC Irvine, No. 687, Chicago White Sox; Daniel Ritcheson, pitcher, Bishop Alemany HS, No. 699, Toronto Blue Jays.

Round 24: Harrison Simon, pitcher, LMU, No. 708, San Diego Padres.

Round 27: J.J. Muno, infielder, Notre Dame HS/SO and UC Santa Barbara, No. 807, Chicago White Sox; Darius Vines, pitcher, St. Bonaventure HS and Oxnard College, No. 825, Chicago Cubs.

Round 30: Sean Watkins, outfielder, LMU and Cal State LA, No. 906, San Francisco Giants.

Round 32: Tyler Adkison, outfielder, Mater Dei HS and San Diego State, No. 970, Los Angeles Dodgers; Phil Caulfield, second baseman, LMU, No. 973, Washington Nationals.
