“Silence: Another Approach to Interfaith Dialogue” will be held Oct. 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Mount St. Mary’s College’s Doheny Campus (Mercy Chapel).

Under the theme “World Day of Prayer II,” this event is sponsored by the Ecumenical and Interreligious Office of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and the outreach ministry of Holy Silence Contemporary Prayer group. The day invites participants to experience silence as a threshold to encountering the presence of God beyond what can be expressed with words, theological doctrines and religious practices.

“Silence as a key to entering into the mystery of the sacred becomes the meeting place from which interfaith dialogues gains its strength, wisdom and common ground,” said Father Alexei Smith, Ecumenical and Interreligious Office director.

Representatives of various faiths — including Carmelite Father Peter Liuzzi — will lead the 30-minutes presentations, each followed by 20 minutes of reflective silence. For information, call (310) 322-1892.
