When I found out I was pregnant, I felt there was no point in keeping the baby because I was too young. I was only 22 with no job and no education.

I thought I needed to be somewhere in life before I had any children. So, with this thinking, I took the abortion pill RU486.

My boyfriend said that if I went through with the abortion that he would leave me. But I still decided for myself that I wouldn’t have the baby.

I went to Planned Parenthood and they supplied me with the first abortion pill, and then told me I had to take another pill four days later. While at Planned Parenthood they did an ultrasound and told me there was no heartbeat, that I was four weeks pregnant but there was no “baby” yet. It was no big deal for them to give me a pill.

I took the first pill that same day but started to feel some regret, and my boyfriend could see that. All along he wanted to fight for the baby.

He always promised he would help me with the baby throughout its entire life, but the fact that he threatened me with a breakup about the abortion showed me he was not the right person for me.

When the fourth day came I went to the pharmacy to get the second abortion pill and I was in line when my boyfriend called me. He spoke urgently, telling me he had spoken to a nurse that might be able to help us.

He said her name was Liz and she was from San Diego, and she knew a Los Angeles physician named Dr. Paddy Jim Baggot who did abortion pill reversals.

Without thinking twice, I immediately left the pharmacy on pure instinct. I knew that if I went through with the second abortion pill, that would be the end of my life because I could never live with the fact that I had killed my own baby.

My boyfriend and I got in touch with Dr. Baggot around 10 or 11 p.m., thinking it would be too late in the night, but he answered and told me to meet him at his clinic immediately.

When we arrived Dr. Baggot did an ultrasound and showed me on the monitor the baby’s heartbeat — it was a punch in my face.

I couldn’t believe it. Just four days earlier Planned Parenthood had assured me there was no heartbeat, no baby, just tissue.

Dr. Baggot explained that it was a good sign the baby still had a heartbeat after the first pill, but there was still a 50/50 chance the baby wouldn’t survive. He then gave me an injection of progesterone and we hoped for the best.

Three months later I was seeing Dr. Baggot regularly for appointments and my baby girl was healthy and growing! I had no complications during my pregnancy and I delivered a beautiful and healthy baby girl.

The whole delivery was so easy I couldn’t believe it. I knew the moment I went to Dr. Baggot that this was the best decision I ever made in my life.

I am originally from Austria but I knew my whole life I would one day live in America. I always knew I was supposed to be here in this country. I didn’t know why — what was the reason I would come here?

Now it makes sense, the reason I was suppose to move here was to meet my now husband and have my baby Lyala.

When I decided to take that first abortion pill no one tried to change my mind except my husband I had no other influence. I am so grateful to him for finding Liz, who brought us to Dr. Baggot.

Back while I was still pregnant I decided to call my best friend from back home in Austria and tell her the news. She said she couldn’t believe it, because she too was also pregnant.

The only difference was she decided to take the second abortion pill. Our relationship is now damaged because she said she does not want to see me playing with my baby around her, knowing that she could have had her baby here also.

So my words to anyone considering abortion are these: No matter how hard life is, holding your baby in your hands is a true miracle.
