Vida Nueva, the monthly Spanish-language newspaper published by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, earned seven José Martí Publishing Awards at the 30th anniversary convention of the National Association of Hispanic Publications, held Oct. 18-20 in San Diego. The NAHP’s José Martí Awards are one of the oldest and the largest Hispanic media awards within the U.S. Vida Nueva collected three gold, three silver and one bronze award, including:---Gold for Outstanding Design: Magazine, Newsprint Format; Outstanding Black & White Photo (“El águila de César Chávez,” by Victor Aleman); and Outstanding International Photo (“En peligro,” by Carlos Barria).---Silver for Outstanding Front Page Design (above 30,000 circulation); Outstanding Color Photo, Overall (above 30,000 circulation, for “Día de la Independencia,” by Waldo Nilo); and Outstanding Community Photo (above 30,000 circulation, for “César Chávez y los ni√±os,” by Victor Aleman.---Bronze in the General Excellence Category for Outstanding Less Than Weekly Newspaper.
