“Myths, Truth, Hope and Healing: Understanding the Complexity of Suicide” will be addressed Oct. 15, 7 p.m. at Blessed Junípero Serra Church, Camarillo.

The presentation will be led by Veronica Scarpelli, former area director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and a member of Los Angeles Archdiocesan Bereavement Training team. The talk will define suicide, discuss statistics and prevention, and address issues related to mental health and guilt.

In addition, the contemporary teachings of the Catholic Church on suicide and how the Church offers loving and caring spiritual comfort, hope and healing for friends and families of the victims, will be addressed. Scarpelli brings her own experiences related to suicide as well as information and suggestions for providing pastoral support.
