St. Lawrence Martyr School is the winner of the 25th Annual Academic Junior High Decathlon, along with runner up St. Martin of Tours School. The regional decathlon was held on March 7 at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Both schools will participate in April’s state championships.

The event was attended by thousands of spectators who came to watch 115 Catholic schools and more than 1,000 students test their academic ability in the Logic Quiz and the Super Quiz, as well as individual tests that included knowledge testing of religion, literature, science and current events, among other subjects. Participating schools were from Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

The day-long event included an opening ceremony, afternoon Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez and a concluding award ceremony.
