“Pace e Bene” (“Peace and goodness”) is said to be one of St. Francis’s favorite greetings to the people of Assisi as he greeted them on his walks through town.

On Oct. 4, the celebration of St. Francis’ feast day, it will also be the title of a reflection on the saint at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino day (9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.) that will include the showing of “Francesco,” a film starring Mickey Rourke and Helena Bonham Carter.

The day — led by Father Mark Villano, director of mission and ministry at Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes — will allow participants to reflect on the saint’s relevance in today’s church and world, as suggested by Pope Francis.
