More than 250 parishioners and guests of all ages gathered at St. Eugene Church in Los Angeles to celebrate the parish’s 75th anniversary the morning of Sept. 9. Archbishop José H. Gomez, who presided at the Mass celebration, was accompanied by several guest priests and escorted by fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Knights of Peter Claver and Knights of St. John.

St. Eugene — dubbed "A Home for All” — has a large Nigerian Igbo community, and Igbo Gospel Choir members sang during the Mass. Other participating parish groups included the altar servers, finance council, parish pastoral council and the 75th anniversary committee.

Before the concluding rite, longtime parishioner Doris Tims and St. Eugene pastor Father Jude Umeobi presented the archbishop with a special gift: a St. Eugene cookbook. Following the Mass, there was a celebration luncheon in the parish hall featuring soul food and Nigerian fare.
