The South Coast Interfaith Council (SCIC) will present the 2014 Long Beach Area CROP Walk on Oct. 26 to raise funds to support charitable efforts to help ease and prevent hunger worldwide. The fundraiser will start and end at St. Cyprian Church, 4714 Clark Ave., Long Beach.

The CROP Walk will begin with registration and a charity bazaar at 1 p.m., to be followed by a rally and pep talk at 2 p.m. The 5K walk will start at 2:30 p.m. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised will be designated for global hunger prevention via the Church World Service (CWS), and the remaining 25 percent will be donated to local charities.

When CROP began in 1947, the name stood for the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Today there are 22 CWS/CROP regional offices across the U.S., and the acronym has come to mean Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty or Communities Reaching Out to People.

On Nov. 16, St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach will host the 11th annual South Coast Interfaith Council Interfaith Unity Awards Dinner and Silent Auction, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
