Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation recently received two $1 million gifts from South Bay philanthropists Stanley and Maureen Moore and the Scharffenberger family, to support the enhancement of cardiovascular services at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance.
Significant investment over the next three years will include: an enhanced electrophysiology suite with stereotaxis for cardiac rhythm procedures, a hybrid operating room for increased cardiac and endovascular surgical capabilities, and additional catheterization laboratory space to accommodate a growing number of patients.
“Maureen and I have a sentimental connection to the hospital as all four of our children and all five of our grandchildren were born here,” Stanley Moore said. “We also wanted to give back out of respect and admiration for two physicians who have impacted our lives, Dr. Mike Del Vicario and Dr. John Armato.”
“It would not be an exaggeration to say that Providence Little Company of Mary and its fantastic doctors, nurses and staff saved our mother’s life two years ago,” said family spokesman George Scharffenberger. “Through that experience, we came to realize that Providence Little Company of Mary is more than a hospital — it is a vital part of our community.”
