A funeral Mass was celebrated May 29 at St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, Washington, for Sister of Providence Anne V. Deuprey (a.k.a. Sister Rose), who died May 22. She was 98 and was a Sister of Providence for nearly 70 years. She is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.
Born the oldest of three children in 1916 to Hillyer Deuprey and Ella Daly, Sister Deuprey grew up in California. In 1944 she graduated from Providence School of Nursing in Oakland, and shortly thereafter entered the Sisters of Providence novitiate in Seattle. She professed first vows in 1946 and final vows three years later.
Sister Deuprey earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1956, and a master’s degree in religious education via the SUMORE (Seattle University Masters of Religious Education) program in 1969, both from Seattle University. She devoted 30 years of ministry in nursing to patients in hospitals located across California, Oregon and the state of Washington.
Sister Deuprey retired in 1984 to St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, where she devoted her time to volunteering in pastoral ministry and hospice care. She is survived by her brother Hillyer Deuprey, who resides in San Diego.
