School spirit was in force at the recent CYO Cheer, Song & Dance competition at La Serna High School in Whittier, where Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s Trojans of Downey earned the title of Overall Champion.

A total of 15 schools and 253 cheerleaders in grades 1-8 competed in three age groups (A, B and Mighty Mites) to earn recognition as the best in CYO. Top performers included:

Overall Champion: OLPH Trojans (Downey): first place in Show Cheer Mighty Mites, Intermediate Show Cheer.

—Overall Highest Score: St. Benedict Bruins (Montebello): first place in Large Show Cheer A, Dance Mighty Mites.

—St. Lucy Panthers (Long Beach): first place in Large Show Cheer B, Song B, Dance B.

—St. John Chrysostom Cougars (Inglewood): first place in Small Show Cheer A, Song A, Dance A.

—St. John the Baptist Vikings (Baldwin Park): first place in Small Show Cheer B.

—Most Congenial School: Holy Redeemer/St. James Crusaders (Montrose)

—Most Spirited School: Our Lady of the Assumption Raiders (Claremont)
