The new Maryvale Center in Duarte will do just that as it provides licensed child care in an area where nearly all of the parents coming to Maryvale have annual incomes well below the federal poverty level. A number of other programs at the newer center will now be available to more than twice as many children and their families.The Daughters of Charity were invited to El Pueblo de los Angeles by Bishop Thaddeus Amat, who asked them to open an orphanage and care for a fast growing number of orphans and homeless children.
