From Santa Margarita High School, Rancho Santa Margarita:

Jared Hughes: After attending Cal state Long Beach and Santa Clara, the Pirates’ 16th round pick of the in 2006 has spent four years as a reliever, with a 3.19 ERA. In 2014, the right-handed Hughes — who turned 29 July 4 — is 4-2 with a career-best 2.14 ERA

From Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana:

Danny Espinosa: Born in Santa Ana, the 27-year-old former teammate of Evan Longoria at Cal State Long Beach is in his fifth year with the Washington Nationals, playing second base and batting .216 with 6 homeruns and 17 RBIs. He hit 38 homeruns in 2011-12 combined, and led the National league by getting hit by a pitch 19 times in 2011.

Sergio Santos: The Los Angeles native was taken by Arizona in the 2002 draft’s first round (No. 27 overall), and made it to the majors with the White Sox in 2010. In 176 major league games over five seasons (all in relief), the right-hander has a 3.68 ERA and saved 30 games for Chicago in 2011. He’s spent the last three years with Toronto.

Anthony Slama: A former 39th round Minnesota Twins selection in 2006 from the University of San Diego, the right-handed reliever appeared in seven games with the Twins in 2010-11, with a 5.14 ERA. He has pitched this year for the Independent League’s Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

From Servite High School, Anaheim:

Marc Rzepczynski: After playing for UC Riverside, the left-handed reliever was drafted by Toronto in the fifth round in 2007, and reached the big leagues with the Blue Jays in 2009. Often brought in to face left-hand batters, Rzepczynski was a member of the Cardinals’ 2011 World Series-winning team, and now pitches for Cleveland, having appeared in 42 games in 2014.

Ben Francisco: The Santa Ana-born outfielder attended Cal-Berkeley and UCLA before being drafted in the fifth round by Cleveland in 2002. He played for six teams from 2005-13, with a .253 average and 50 homeruns (15 in 2008, with 54 RBIs), and now plays for Lancaster of the independent Atlantic League.

D.J. Houlton: Born in Fullerton and taken by Houston in the eleventh round of the 2001 draft from the University of the Pacific, the right-handed pitcher         plays in the Korean baseball association. He played for the Dodgers in 2005 and 2007, with a combined record of 6-11.

Brian Wolfe: Also from Fullerton, Wolfe has played in the Japanese league since 2010. A right-handed reliever who was drafted by the Twins in 1999’s sixth round, he spent parts of 2007-09 with Toronto, going 5-5 with a 3.81 ERA.
