They also got healthy-cooking tips from fellow parishioner and registered dietitian Ann Crockenberg. Service providers at the event included representatives from the Lions Club, AIDS Heathcare Foundation, St. John’s Family Clinic, QueensCare, St. Vincent’s Multicultural Health Awareness and Prevention Center, NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness), Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, which supports family members and friends of problem drinkers. “Parishioners and their families were very grateful and surely took advantage of the free services that were provided,” reported pastor Divine Word Missionary Father Damian Kabot. Elise Frederick, executive director of the Mission Doctors Association, said the health fair was an opportunity to say “thank you” to the whole St. John the Evangelist Parish community for their steadfast support over the years.In return, Cheryl Fabien, parishioner and Health Fair Committee chair, thanked both the Mission Doctors Association and Lay Mission-Helpers “for the idea, execution and help given to make this a complete success. It was truly appreciated by everyone.”Both religious-based missionary groups were started by Msgr.
