Four Maryknoll Sisters, including a Bishop Amat High School graduate, were elected as new leaders of the Congregational Leadership Team at its recent General Assembly. The new team, who will begin their six-year term of service in January 2015, are Sisters Antoinette Gutzler, president; Numeriana Mojado, vice-president; and Anastasia Lott and Teruko Ito, members.

Sister Lott, born in Germany and raised in California, is a 1971 graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, Westminster; attended Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana (1971-73); and graduated in 1975 from Bishop Amat High School, La Puente. She earned a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of San Diego, and served as a Jesuit Volunteer working as a parish outreach worker for Catholic Social Services of Utica, N.Y., providing services to local parish and community groups.

As Maryknoll Lay Missioner, she served in Bolivia and Venezuela, in community organizing and pastoral ministry in urban areas, as well as administrative and formation responsibilities. In 1986, she entered the Mary-knoll Sisters, made her first vows in 1987 and served in Tanzania (in pastoral and medical work) and Kenya (in youth ministry). She then moved to Nairobi and was active as a community development consultant, especially with local religious communities and the Jesuit Refugee Service.

In 1997 Sister Lott went to Namibia where she was involved with pastoral and leadership training for the Diocese of Rundu. She later served as human resource development officer for Catholic health services and was a volunteer trainer for Criminals Return into Society, teaching small business management and computer skills to ex-inmates.

She was appointed in 2003 as director of planned giving for Maryknoll Sisters, and 2010 was named director of the congregation’s development department.

Founded in 1912, Maryknoll Sisters is the first U.S.-based congregation of women religious dedicated to world mission, working primarily among the poor and marginalized in 22 countries around the world. They now number nearly 450 members.
