“Embrace God’s Call to Generosity/Abraza el Llamado de Dios a la Generosidad” is the theme of the San Fernando Regional Congress, the first of the annual fall regional congresses presented by the Office of Religious Education. The theme for the Sept. 17 event at Bishop Alemany High School, Mission Hills, is drawn for the weekend’s Gospel from Matthew (“Are you envious because I am generous?”), said Margaret Sardo, ORE San Fernando Regional Coordinator.“As laborers in God’s vineyard, we know the vastness of God’s love for us, the challenge of the acceptance of God’s mercy for ourselves and others, and the reality of our inability, at times, to know that God’s ways are beyond our own,” she noted. “The readings of this 25th Sunday in ordinary time remind us that the Lord is near. In a time where we have difficulty in forgiving our neighbor, making just decisions in our daily life, and finding the gifts we are given in our life as enough, we are challenged by the words of the landowner in the Gospel of Matthew. To grow into God’s care for us, there is comfort in knowing that God will provide for all a just wage, and forgive us when we doubt what has been provided for us.”The Regional Congress will include a live stream presentation of morning praise and the closing liturgy, plus three liturgical workshops, including one on the new translation of the Roman Missal at 9:30 a.m. led Father Chris Bazyouros, pastor of St. Albert the Great Church, Rancho Dominguez. Other live stream workshops include “The same Mass Yesterday, Today and Forever,” led by ValLimar Jansen (11:15 a.m.), and “Eucharist: At the Heart of Our Life,” led by Father David Loftus (2 p.m.). A link to the live stream presentations is included in the registration fee.Altogether, nearly 90 workshops in English and Spanish will be available for parish ministers on topics that include education, liturgy, family life, spirituality and more.Registration is $25 before Sept. 1, and $30 after.
