Immaculate Heart Radio, known as a leader in Catholic programming, will begin broadcasting on KTYM 1460 AM in the Los Angeles area at the end of the summer.
“We are excited to welcome Immaculate Heart Radio to Los Angeles and recognize the important role that radio can play in strengthening the faith and identity of our people,” Archbishop José H. Gomez said. The station, by sharing the Gospel, can make families and parishes stronger and can reach those who “have left the Church or given up on God.”
Immaculate Heart Radio is a growing non-profit organization of listener-supported non-commercial radio stations broadcasting throughout the western United States. The original broadcast signal, which launched in 1997 from studios in a warehouse in Reno, has grown to include 31 outlets that air educational and inspirational Catholic content 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
“Every broadcaster wants to be in Los Angeles and being here has been our goal for nearly 20 years,” said Doug Sherman, president of Immaculate Heart Radio. “This is important to Immaculate Heart Radio. Adding KTYM to our roster of stations will allow us to grow our potential audience by more than a third.”
Broadcasts already reach millions in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. Through 1460 AM, Immaculate Heart could reach more than 11 million daytime listeners.
Popular programs include “Catholic Answers Life,” a call-in show that gives listeners a chance to ask questions and learn more about Catholicism; “Right Here, Right Now, with Patrick Madrid,” which features advice for living a deeply Catholic life, and “The Doctor is In,” a show that offers parenting advice from psychologist Ray Guarendi.
