On Aug. 15, Loyola Marymount University and TSEHAI Publishers announced the launch of the Harriet Tubman Press (HTP), a new source for African-American literature and academic works.
The announcement came during a community discussion of African American publishing hosted by the university.
Harriet Tubman was chosen as the namesake because she is an example for those fighting for an equal and just society, said Elias Wondimu, one of the organizers of the new publishing house.
Wondimu added that the new organization would provide a new home for both established and up-and-coming literary writers and scholars who chronicle the challenges and triumphs of their communities.
