“Fides Ecclesiae” (Faith of the Church), a musical to celebrate the Year of Faith and the lives of recently canonized St. Kateri Tekaktwitha and St. Pedro Calungsod, will be presented Dec. 2 in Redondo Beach. The Filipino Priests, the Cursillo Movement of Los Angeles and laity from different parishes are encouraging parishioners throughout Southern California to make a one-time donation of $50 or $100 ($20 for students and seniors) to attend the play whose performers include Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Solis, soprano Alexandra Ramos, tenor Ruben Cuatrona Jr., the Chamorro Group of Los Angeles and the folkloric group Herencia Mexicana. Proceeds will benefit St. John’s Seminary and the archdiocesan Lay Mission Helpers Association. The script and lyrics were written by Father Robert Victoria, pastor of St. Anthony Church, El Segundo. Music was written by Father Adrian San Juan, administrator pro-tem of St. Madeleine Church in Pomona. “We want to inspire people with this play; re-introduce them to the faith,” said Father Victoria. “Both saints [featured in the play] could be role models for the youth. We want people to be proud of their faith and to live it with sincerity.” Two presentations of the musical will take place at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Redondo Beach: at 2 p.m. for students (confirmation candidates included) and seniors, and at 7 p.m. for the general public. —Doris Benavides For tickets and more information call Father Victoria, (323) 788-7073; email [email protected]; or call St. Christopher Church, (626) 960-1805.
