The La Salle Lancer girls cross country team finished first at the Grant Nunnally Invitational at Moreno Valley Community College on Sept. 13. La Salle freshman Makenna Maucher finished second and junior Bettina Lee was third overall.

At the Sept. 13 Rosemead Invitational, Loyola tied Burroughs for the boys’ team title, with St. John Bosco third. Mayfield won the girls’ title with Mater Dei second and St. Joseph/Lakewood ninth.

La Salle’s girls’ team is fourth in the current CIF-SS Division 4 rankings (as of Sept. 22), with Bishop Amat first, J.Serra third, Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks fifth, Rosary seventh and La Reina tenth. In Division 5, Mayfield is second and Sacred Heart fifth.

The CIF-SS rankings for boys (as of Sept. 22) find Loyola second in Division 1 and St. John Bosco sixth in Division 3. Bishop Amat is top-ranked in Division 4, with J. Serra second, Salesian sixth and Cathedral seventh. St. Bonaventure is sixth in Division 5.

Top upcoming meets include the 40th annual Bellarmine-Jefferson Griffith Park Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 28, with 3,000 runners expected to compete in 17 races.

Other Sports

Girls’ Tennis: The Sept. 22 CIF-SS rankings showed Villanova Prep of Ojai ranked fifth in Division 5. In Division 1, J. Serra and Santa Margarita received honorable mention.

Boys’ Water Polo: Four Catholic teams were in the top 10 of the most recent CIF-SS Division 1 rankings: Mater Dei (2), Loyola (3), Servite (8) and Santa Margarita (10). Damien was seventh in Division 2.
